Lynsie Russ received Bachelors degrees in Public History and Anthropology, with concentrations in Museum Studies and Archaeology, from Longwood University in 2013.
A native of rural Upstate New York, Lynsie’s family moved to Bedford, Virginia in the summer of 2004. Right away, Lynsie quickly realized that Bedford and the surrounding Lynchburg area is truly “home” in her heart.
At the age of 15, her parents began sponsoring individuals with disabilities in their home, and Lynsie quickly developed a passion for advocating and empowering those whose voices are often not heard. One of these individuals, whom she affectionately calls her “brother”, has been a constant inspiration in Lynsie’s life for over 10 years.
Lynsie was further drawn to the field when, while working as a Direct Support Professional, she watched her long-time “brother” grow and excel in his employment, all thanks to the help of Stand Up, Inc.’s services. In March of 2018, Lynsie was offered an opportunity to become a team member with Stand Up, Inc., and you better believe she jumped at the chance!
Lynsie believes that, much like a seed, each and every person contains within themselves all they will ever need to achieve their dreams. She enjoys encouraging people to realize this potential, and supporting them to achieve this potential. She is an ardent supporter of the philosophy of “Discovering Personal Genius” – the idea that we all have skills and talents that are extraordinary and uniquely ours, we just need to find them!
Lynsie’s hobbies include reading, painting, hiking, eating ice cream, and being a devoted dog and cat mom.
Her favorite quote is short, sweet, and simple…
“Great oaks from little acorns grow…”
– 14th Century Proverb
